As a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), I am privileged to know what psychologists are most concerned with as they deal with their clients. In the past, there was a somewhat stable list of the 25 most common stressors. Today, there is one that tops anyone’s list: the COVID-19 pandemic and its social and psychological consequences.
March 11, 2022, marked the second anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic. In February of this year, the Harris Poll conducted a survey and found that inflation and the Ukraine invasion topped the list of stressors since 2007.
Here is a list of the top stressors as revealed by that poll. Topping the list at 87% of those reporting were gas prices, energy bills, and grocery prices, followed by supply chain issues and global uncertainty, at 81% of those reporting.
The survey found that more than 60% of the people surveyed said the pandemic had changed their lives, and it is a widespread sense of loss and grieving.
This is not the picture of a healthy nation, and the resources to manage such widespread stress and loss are in short supply.
Now, here is the plug. Hypnosis works as a first line of defense against stress, frustration, and grief.
